Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that uses a circular diamond tip to remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells to reveal younger, healthier-looking skin.

Microdermabrasion also encourages the production of a new underlying layer of skin cells with higher levels of collagen and elastin, which further improves your skin’s appearance.

Microdermabrasion treatments are chemical free and available at Before the Lines. Microdermabrasion is good for treating a range of skin concerns, including:

  • Appearance of fine lines, scars and wrinkles
  • Sun damaged and uneven skin tone
  • Acne prone skin
  • Blackheads
  • Whiteheads
  • Superficial age spots and hyper-pigmentation
  • Excessive oiliness or dry skin

It is not effective for deeper problems such as scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, or deep acne scars.

Does Microdermabrasion work?

This will depend on how many treatments you have. You will  notice a change in the clarity, elasticity and texture of your skin from the first treatment but continued treatments will see maximum, long term results.

Microdermabrasion Benefits

People with uneven pigmentation, fine lines and clogged pores can benefit from a course of Microdermabrasion treatments.

Microdermabrasion stimulates the blood flow, which increases nutrients delivered to your skin cells. This will improve cell production,  improving skin’s elasticity and texture. In turn, it may help reduce the appearance of acne scars.

Who is Microdermabrasion suitable for?

A suitable candidate for Microdermabrasion includes those with sun damaged, dull or acne-prone skin, fine superficial scarring, skin wrinkles, enlarged pores, comedones (white/black heads) and/or milia.

As this procedure only affects the epidermis (the superficial layer of skin comprised of dead skin cells), this is a very safe procedure for all skin types.

You should not consider Microdermabrasion if:

Microdermabrasion is not recommended if you suffer skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema, active sunburn, herpes, lupus, open sores, psoriasis, fragile capillaries or widespread acne. If this tretament is performed with the stated then you are at risk of irritating the skin or causing further breakouts.

Microdermabrasion is also not effective for deeper problems for example surgery/burn scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, or deep acne scars.

What is expected after my session?

Microdermabrasion treatments require no downtime enabling you to return to your normal routine and apply light cosmetics directly after treatment.

You may experience a slight tightness and/or minor redness at the treatment location (similar to a windburn) immediately post treatment.

It is important to protect your skin from the sun, keeping the skin hydrated with a good quality moisturiser and follow the post-treatment care instructions provided to you by your therapist to maintain your results.

Treatments can also be combined with Peels/Microneedling to obtain maximum results.

When can I expect to see results?

Microdermabrasion results are immediate. The skin will be noticeably smoother with a refreshing glow and radiance after just one Microdermabrasion treatment.

As skin cell turnover is a constant process, results are temporary and a series of treatments at regular intervals is recommended to maintain and improve results.
