How does BBL Broadband Light Therapy work?

BBL delivers light in the visible and infrared spectrum, targeting the surface and deeper layers of the skin. Like IPL, the BBL device emits broad-spectrum photothermal energy, which is absorbed by brown pigment (melanin) in skin and the haemoglobin in blood vessels that cause redness.

The handpiece contains a special filter that allows us to alter the wavelength of the light throughout the treatment session. The light is absorbed by melanin within the pigment spots, breaking them down. These broken cells are then naturally removed by your body from the skin surface.

However, BBL has more customizable settings, allowing dermatologists to tailor the treatment to a patient’s specific skin type and concerns. BBL also stimulates collagen production, which improves skin texture and tone over time, improving any signs of aging.

What is expected after you BBL treatment?

The skin may appear red for a few hours after treatment, and swelling can be minimal or last one or two days in some people, those above the age of 45 may experience this lasting a little longer.

It is best to allow one or two days to recovery from your first treatment, and it is possible to wear make-up on the same day if required and return to work.

We recommend avoiding sun exposure for a couple of weeks post procedure.

Brown spots may darken and take a week to resolve. Occasional bruising can occur too, which lasts one week.

To relieve swelling and discomfort, apply a cold compress to the affected area for 10 to 20 minutes at a time. If you are able to use Arnica tablets, and have no allergies to this product, then it can be used from two weeks before your appointment to reduce potential swelling.

When can I expect to see results from the Veto-Power BBL treatment?

While you might see improvements after one session, the overall timeframe and number of sessions required to achieve optimal results will be determined based on your specific needs. Consistency is critical, and a series of treatments (4-12 weeks) might be recommended to consolidate and maintain long-lasting results.
